BATTERY CHARGING GUIDE
Charge Smart • Charge Safe • Ride Longer
For information about powering on the battery, removing it, checking charge level, battery range, and battery life expectations, refer to the appropriate Rad Power Bikes battery resources and your bike's Owner's Manual.
Damage, misuse, or improper charging of a battery or charger can create a serious safety hazard. Always follow the safety and procedural instructions provided by Rad Power Bikes and in your Owner's Manual.
🔋 EXTERNAL VS. SEMI-INTEGRATED BATTERIES
Rad Power Bikes models may use either an external battery that sits against the bike frame or a semi-integrated battery that partially nests into the frame.
Both are high-end lithium-ion batteries, but there are differences in how they attach to the bike, how they are activated, and some of their charging procedures.
Mounted externally against the e-bike frame.
Partially nests inside the e-bike frame.
🏠 SAFE CHARGING ENVIRONMENT
Always charge in a safe, dry, indoor area away from children, direct sunlight, dirt, debris, tripping hazards, electrical cords, and materials that could ignite in the unlikely event of a charger or battery malfunction.
Arrange the bike, battery, and charger to reduce the possibility of falls or impacts. Stay close enough to periodically check the battery and charger during charging.
⚡ WHEN SHOULD I CHARGE?
A new Rad Power Bikes battery should arrive with approximately 50%–75% charge. You can ride the bike without first fully charging it once the bike has been assembled and verified as safe.
You can charge your Rad battery after every ride—even after a short trip around the block.
Rad Power Bikes recommends fully charging the battery after each ride so it is ready to provide maximum available range for your next ride.
A partially charged battery does not need to be immediately charged back to full. However, it should be charged as soon as possible when the battery indicator begins flashing to indicate a low charge.
The battery can generally be charged on or off the bike, provided the charging environment meets the safety requirements above.
🔌 HOW TO CHARGE YOUR RAD BATTERY
Turn off your e-bike. The exact procedure varies depending on the Rad Power Bikes model.
Remove the battery if you want to charge it away from the bike.
Locate the battery charging port. Do not confuse the charging port with the keyport. The charging port has a flexible cover; the keyport does not.
Place the charger on a flat, secure surface with the charging indicator light(s) facing upward.
Open the flexible charging-port cover and connect the charger's round barrel connector to the battery.
After connecting the charger to the battery, plug the charger into the wall outlet. Charging should begin.
🚦 WHAT DO THE CHARGER LIGHTS MEAN?
The LED will initially show green when connected to power, then turn red while actively charging. When charging is complete, the LED will return to green.
While actively charging, both LEDs will be red. Once charging is complete, one LED will turn green.
✅ WHEN CHARGING IS COMPLETE
Unplug the charger from the wall outlet first, then disconnect the charger from the battery.
Always pull gently on the connector itself—never pull on the charger cable.
